People naturally love the beaches. And why not? They are the perfect getaway from the hustle and bustle of urban life, away from the incessant ringing of office telephones and morning traffic jams. This ethereal quality of beaches alone is probably the main reason why beaches have become one of the most photographed places on Earth. Beach pictures are simply a phenomenon of the modern times.
However, this recent beach picture-craze has given way to one particular problem: the profusion of mediocre beach pictures both online and in print. For example, the Internet has thousands of beach pictures available for online viewing. The sad part of it all, unfortunately, is that more than half of these beach pictures are actually of very poor quality. While amateur photographers are party to blame for this occurrence, the true culprit here is when people fail to recognize the fact that something naturally beautiful to the naked eye does not necessarily translate to a picture quality subject.
The following are some basic tips on how to shoot that perfect beach picture:
Be extra creative - Beach pictures are way too common nowadays, which is probably one of the worst facts of life that all beach photographers have to accept.
Try to think out of the box. Stay away from the mundane, like the setting sun over the beach's horizon. There are a lot of unique subjects you can find in a beach environment if you look hard enough.
Remember the rule of thirds - Now this is a very basic rule that every photographer should know: always follow the rule of thirds.
For example, when taking a shot of the beach's horizon, don't set your angle so that the horizon is right cuts directly in the middle of the photograph. Instead, place the horizon somewhere along the bottom or top third portion of your photograph.
Most other rules in photography likewise apply to beach pictures as well. The key here is to stay creative as much as possible to avoid falling for the same pitfalls that have plagued thousands of beach photographers worldwide.
